PENERANGAN. :

Lignosus rhinocerus (Cooke) Ryvarden juga dikenali sebagai "cendawan susu Rimau" dalam bahasa Melayu atau Tiger’s Milk mushroom dalam bahasa Inggeris. Ada juga mengenalinya dengan Cendawan Susu Harimau atau Kulat Susu Harimau merupakan cendawan herba yang boleh ditemui di perhutanan di beberapa tempat diMalaysia.  Menurut kepercayaan orang asal, cendawan ini dipercayai tumbuh dari titisan susu harimau yang tumpah ke bumi semasa ibu harimau sedang menyusukan anaknya.  Ubi nya (sclerotium) berwarna putih akan terbentuk dan tertanam di dalam tanah untuk suatu jangka masa yang agak lama. Ia boleh mengambil masa berbulan-bulan, bertahun-tahun atau berabad lamanya untuk tumbuh.  Apabila tiba masanya, ianya akan bercambah keluar dan membentuk payung cendawan yang berkembang mekar.  Kulat atau cendawan ini sukar didapati melainkan terdapat didalam hutan hutan tebal banjaran titiwangsa.

KEGUNAAN DAN KHASIAT :

Cendawan susu rimau mempunyai pelbagai khasiat yang menakjubkan.  Sejak sekian lamanya, ianya digunakan sebagai herba tradisional untuk mengubati pelbagai masalah berkait kesihatan.
Ia di katakan mempunyai khasiat yang tinggi untuk merawat;
a)   Demam
b)   Selsema,
c)   Menghalang Penyakit Kanser,
d)   Aasma
e)   Batuk
f)    Memecah pembengkakan bernanah

Dalam pengubatan, kulat ini dijadikan selain untuk diminum, juga sebagai ubat sapu dimana kulat ini diasah dengan air pada tudung periuk tanah dan airnya itu dibuat sapu pada payudara. Pesakit akan merasai dingin dan mengurangi peradangan atau bengkak susu. Air asahan ini boleh diminum sehari 3 sudu besar bagi mengelakkan berlakunya peradangan

Pengamal perubatan traditional masyarakat Melayu menggunakannya untuk mengubati barah darah, barah rahim, penyakit ulser usus, penyakit buah pinggang, dan bengkak-bengkak mata dan di seluruh badan. 

Manakala pengamal perubatan traditional masyarakat Cina pula menggunakannya untuk mengubati derman, lelah, ashma, menigkatkan sistem immunologi dan menguatkan kesihatan badan.

Kaum pribumi, mempercayai Cendawan Susu Harimau (Lignosus rhinocerus) yang berasal dari keluarga kulat yang sama seperti  cendawan Ling Zhi atau Reishi yang terkenal. Sebatian aktif yang mempunyai ciri ubatan dalam cendawan adalah beta-glucan. Komuniti orang asal menggunakan Cendawan Susu Harimau untuk merawat batuk, asma, demam, gastrik, ketidak hadaman dan keracunan makanan.
